Power and Control Wheel

At the core of most abusive situations is the abuser's need for power and control in the relationship. The graphic below summarizes how this need manifests itself in domestic violence. On the outside are the physical and sexual violence characteristics. Each section of the wheel describes ways other than violence that abusers use to maintain their power and control over the victim.
